Healthy eating effects more than just your weight, it affects your eyes!  Vitamins are imperative to the healthy development of your eyes.

Vitamin A is crucial for healthy eyes.  Lack of vitamin A can cause night vision problems, dry eyes, vision loss, cataracts and macular degeneration.  You can get your daily vitamin A by eating beef liver, chicken liver, or if you aren’t too keen on eating liver for dinner, milk and eggs are great sources, too!

Lycopene is another nutrient that is great for your eyes!  It reduces your risk of macular degeneration, and it appears to lower the risk for some cancers.  It is found in red fruits and veggies like tomatoes, watermelon, apricots and blood oranges.

Drink your OJ!  Vitamin C reduces macular degeneration and cataracts.

Good news!  To keep your eyes healthy, you can eat dark chocolate to get your daily Bioflaonoids for the day.  Bioflavonoids can reduce inflammation and keep your blood vessels healthy, which makes for healthy eyes!

Overall, the best way to ensure healthy, strong eyes is by eating leafy green veggies and brightly colored fruits and vegetables.  The brighter the color, the more nutrients packed into it.

If  you have concerns about how your eyes are developing visit your local Indianapolis optometrist!
