Work.  It is something most of us do five days a week (if not more!).  For many jobs our eyes are needed and expected to do the majority of the work besides our brains (a few exceptions? Work.  It is something most of us do five days a week (if not more!).  For many jobs our eyes are needed and expected to do the majority of the work besides our brains (a few exceptions? Food Critic (sense of taste), Opera Singer (sense of hearing), Composer (sense of hearing)).  So with very few exceptions most of us need healthy vision to do well on the job.  March is Workplace Eye Wellness month as designated by Prevent Blindness America.

Healthy eyes at work are a must have.  Indiana eye doctors stress the importance of healthy vision at work to ensure work productivity, lower stress levels, success on the job, and overall well-being.  The first thing any employee can do is make sure they have a yearly eye examination even if they feel their vision is fine.  Many vision diseases (including diseases that rob one’s eyesight) have few if any outward symptoms at all.

An Indianapolis eye doctor like Dr. Tavel or one of his board certified associates through a complete eye exam can detect vision diseases that may not show noticeable symptoms.  This could save your sight. The next step? Take eye breaks at work and take them with other co-workers.  Every 20 minutes look away for 20 seconds at something 20 feet away hence the 20-20-20 rule.  This rule specifically applies to those employees focusing on up-close work on a computer screen.

March is a month of change with the oncoming of spring and the weather changing, school sports transitioning, and yearly spring cleaning.  Change your routine at work to ensure your eyesight is healthy this month and keep up with vision breaks and eye care all year long to protect your eyesight on the job and otherwise.  Tell your co-workers it’s Workplace Eye Wellness month!
