According to allaboutvision.com, amblyopia is a vision development disorder in which an eye fails to achieve normal visual acuity. This condition is commonly known as lazy eye and usually causes sight difficulty primarily in one eye.
Lazy eye generally takes place during infancy and early childhood. Treatment, if caught early, includes using a patch or corrective glasses for the struggling eye. In severe cases, surgery may be an option to permanently correct the disorder.
If you notice your child’s eyes look somewhat crossed, or one eye is slightly turned in, an eye exam may be needed. Visit one of Dr. Tavel’s 19 convenient locations if you are concerned about your child’s risk of amblyopia.
