Fall swooped in swiftly the day before VisionWalk 2011 bringing chilly autumn temperatures with it. The morning of Saturday, September 24, was no different. As Team Tavel huddled together in front of the Indiana government center, munching on bagels and bananas, we all chatted eagerly about our fundraising success this year for VisionWalk to benefit the Foundation Fighting Blindness. As a team, we more than doubled our financial goal on behalf of Dr. Tavel. The year before, our first year participating in the walk, we raised $1,000 to find a cure for retinal degenerative diseases. This year, we raised $2,341.02!

Team Tavel at VisionWalk 2011

With excitement milling in the air as all of the fundraising teams awaited the final fundraising tally, Team Tavel reminisced about how lucky we are to have the support of our offices, vendors and friends and family. We have you to thank for our success as a team this year. Without your financial support and encouragement, we would not have surpassed our fundraising goal. Thank you for your help and support in our fight to cure blindness.

Additionally, Dr. Tavel was featured as a community sponsor for the event this year. This means that there are big shoes to fill for next year’s walk. I have complete faith that, with your ongoing support, we can meet and surpass our personal fundraising goal for the second year in a row, as well as increase our number of participating walkers for 2012. I won’t get ahead of myself, but trust me when I tell you that you will want to join the fun next year.

In case you were wondering, the most current fundraising total for Indianapolis VisionWalk 2011 is upwards of $60,000. More than $12,000 was collected on the day of the walk alone. In regard to our personal fundraising goal at Dr. Tavel, sincere thanks are owed to Senda Forrest for selling the most individual pop eyes, the Shelbyville Dr. Tavel location for raising the most money from our participating locations, and our vendor sponsors: Kodak Lens, Tura and Zyloware. Additional thanks to all of our participants and fundraisers—a cure is in sight with your help!
