According to allaboutvision.com, a stye  is an eye condition that is created by the infection of an oil gland on the edge of the eye. When bacteria infects the gland, a small bump forms causing eye irritation and swelling for a short period of time.

More often than not, a stye will heal and disappear on its own. To speed up the process and help with discomfort, apply a hot compress on the eye multiple times a day for several days.

If you develop this eye condition fairly frequently, visit a Dr. Tavel location. Your eye doctor can prescribe an antibiotic to help prevent the constant occurrence of a stye.
