Dr. Tavel Partners with Elevate Indianapolis to Provide Free Eye Exams and Glasses to IPS Students

Local partnership aims to address vision problems in the classroom

October 8, 2020 – Indianapolis – Today on World Sight Day, Dr. Tavel announces a two-year eye care partnership with local education and mentoring non-profit Elevate Indianapolis. Dr. Tavel will provide free vision screenings for all Indianapolis Public School students who participate in Elevate Indianapolis’ programming through 2022, as well as up to 200 free comprehensive eye exams and a free, complete pair of glasses for those students in need of correction.

Launching on World Sight Day 2020, the partnership between Dr. Tavel and Elevate Indianapolis will continue through December 31, 2022.

Given Dr. Tavel is celebrating its 80-year anniversary in 2020, World Sight Day was an ideal moment for the team to launch a robust series of initiatives that reiterate their commitment to making eye care accessible for all. These initiatives include:

• A one-day fundraising effort with Indianapolis Monthly that aims to raise awareness for preventable and uncorrected vision problems. On October 8, for every “like” on Indy Monthly’s Instagram post, Dr. Tavel will donate $1 to Essilor Vision Foundation, an organization that provides free eye exams and glasses to the 1 in 4 kids who have a vision problem that affects their ability to learn.*
• Partnerships with four local social media influencers — @EclecticKurves, @Melanated.Motherhood, @Bailey.Oschman and @IndianapolisMoms – who will help raise awareness for the importance of vision correction and give away pairs of free glasses.
• On the Dr. Tavel Instagram account, the team is educating followers on the importance of regular eye exams and giving away a Modo frame to one lucky winner.
• To make an immediate impact on our local community, Dr. Tavel also gifted each member of #TeamTavel with a certificate for free eyewear to distribute to someone in need.
