Last weekend was an early Christmas gift for my wife when I took her to “the greatest show on earth.” No it wasn’t the Big Ten game; it was Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey circus.

My wife has never been to the circus and I haven’t been since a child, so it was something new to do on a Saturday night. The first thing that we did when we walked into Conseco Fieldhouse was purchase a program for $15. I expected things to be a little overpriced, so a program was a good keepsake. As we turned to walk away, the sales woman said, “excuse me, but these circus glasses come with the programs.” She preceded to hand my wife a yellow pair of glasses, which read “The Greatest Show on Earth” on one lenses and had a red clown nose attached. In the spirit of the circus, my wife put the clown glasses on her face as we walked to our seats. I looked at her and told her that we should start selling clown glasses at Dr. Tavel.

Our seats weren’t too bad, but they weren’t as good as some of the patrons who actually paid to sit on the floor in front of the rings. They definitely had the best seats for their eyes (second to a seat in the exam chair at Dr. Tavel).

All in all, the show was great, and my wife and I had a great time. In the theme of the circus we were definitely “Fired Up!”
