Are Carrots Really Good For Your Eyes?

We’ve all heard the old wives tale about how carrots are good for your eyes. But is there actually any truth behind that statement?

The answer: yes and no. Saying that something is good for your eyes doesn’t necessarily mean it does anything for your vision. Carrots are good for eye health, but they will not improve your vision.

Your body converts the beta-carotene in carrots to vitamin A which Indiana eye doctors say is vital for maintaining proper eye health. Even if you’re not lacking in vitamin A, your vision won’t improve no matter how many carrots you eat. The blindness that results from vitamin A deficiency in not correctable with glasses or contacts – it is an organic deficiency that can’t be undone.

If you’re looking for vegetables rich in vitamin A, try spinach and kale. They have much more vitamin A than carrots …yet still the tale of carrots lives on!
