Eye examinations should be an every year thing; just like a physical at the doctor is or a check up at the dentist.  It is imperative to monitor your vision each year because as we age our eye sight can change and vision loss can potentially occur.  It is important but our vision and eye examinations don’t always top the yearly lists for many American’s (sometimes including myself!) because if we can see fine we don’t see or feel the need to see an Indiana eye doctor to get an eye examination.

We need to “see” the need according to many Indiana eye doctors or blindness will become more common than we think.  In a recent HealthNewsDigest.com article it was reported that by 2020 43 million American’s will be at risk for vision robbing diseases and blindness.  This is an increase of 50% over those American’s who have these diseases now.

Diseases like cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy among others top the list of those that take our sight away especially as we age.  One common characteristic about these diseases?  They don’t tend to have symptoms until irreversible damage is sometimes already done.  This is why yearly eye examinations are a must as Indianapolis eye doctors like Dr. Tavel and his board certified associates are able to detect diseases through a comprehensive eye examination that may not show signs of symptoms to those affected.

One of the problems with the lack of “seeing” the need for eye care and exams?  According to HealthNewsDigest.com, American’s are more concerned about weight loss or gain and back pain than their vision.  But eye examinations and protecting our vision is a must especially if we want to see clearly in the future.  One suggestion?  For those over 40 years of age get a comprehensive eye examination as this is a benchmark age where our vision can take a turn for the worse.

A comprehensive eye examination is something easy to add to your yearly list especially at Dr. Tavel Family Eye Care where offices are conveniently opened evenings and weekends to fit into anyone’s busy schedule.  Schedule today.
