It’s fitting that age related macular degeneration (AMD) awareness week comes to an end tomorrow since it happens to also be the day of the 5th annual Indianapolis VisionWalk. Both awareness events are sponsored by the Foundation Fighting Blindness.
AMD is the most common cause of vision loss in individuals over 55. An estimated 10 million people in the U.S. either have AMD or are at substantial risk of developing it. AMD is a deterioration of the small area in your retina that lines the back of your eye. This part of the eye is responsible for your central vision.
Early detection is the key to fighting AMD. Visit the AMD Week website for more information on your potential risk, the symptoms to look for, and the resources available.
AMD is just one of many retinal degenerative diseases researched by funds from VisionWalk. VisionWalk is the national fundraising event of the Foundation Fighting Blindness. Since 2006, Vision Walk has raised over $16 million to fund sight-saving research. The Indianapolis VisionWalk is tomorrow at 9 a.m. in downtown Indianapolis. Check back next week for an update on the Tavel VisionWalk team and the results of our fundraising for the Foundation Fighting Blindness. We see a cure in sight!
