Understanding how to care for your contact lenses is essential to your eye health. There are various kinds of contact lenses and several different types of solutions, but the same general care guidelines apply.
Here are five tips from your Indiana eye doctor for proper contact lens care:
Always wash your hands with warm water and non-moisturizing soap before handling your contact lenses. Dry your hands with a clean, lint-free towel.
Clean and disinfect your lenses as prescribed. Never use plain water on your lenses. Only use the eye care products recommended by Dr. Tavel.
Wear your lenses according to your Optometrist’s recommendations. Failure to adhere to the proper care guidelines may result in infection, discomfort and other eye disorders.
Clean your contact lens case with sterile solution or hot water after each use. Replace your case once a month to minimize your risk of infection.
If you develop any eye irritation, remove your contact lenses and immediately contact Dr. Tavel. Continuing to wear a pair of contaminated lenses will only worsen the situation.
These tips will not only make your eyes safer, but your contact lenses will be more comfortable, too!
