I absolutely adore football season. During the NFL season kickoff, you can find me on the nearest comfy couch, in front of the television, flipping back and forth between games. For months, my Sundays, Monday nights and occasional alternative evenings are booked solid would nothing but football games. I absolutely adore football season. During the NFL season kickoff, you can find me on the nearest comfy couch, in front of the television, flipping back and forth between games. For months, my Sundays, Monday nights and occasional alternative evenings are booked solid would nothing but football games. This past Sunday, I happened to notice a small addition to my football routine. No, I didn’t forget the beer. I had added the practice of squinting at the TV to my couch potato, popcorn eating habits.

Well, that was annoying for me. If you have a similar problem—you notice that you have to focus a little harder to see your favorite kicker (Adam Vinatieri!) line up for field goal or work harder to see where the ball was thrown during the last plan—then you too may need a new eye exam. Sometimes, one missed play is all it takes to make you realize that you’re not seeing the world to the best of your ability!

As AllAboutVision.com points out, we leave in a very near-point focused world. We spend much of our day focusing on things within an arm’s reach of our eyes or further away. This can include reading, computer use, homework, paperwork and much more. The prevalence of myopia, or near sightedness, has increased. Symptoms include headaches or eye strain, and you might find yourself squinting or feeling eye fatigue.

Does this sound familiar? If it does, you can make an appointment, like I did, to have your eyes checked. Fortunately, Dr. Tavel has evening and weekend hours to accommodate every kind of busy schedule. If you head in for an eye exam this weekend, you might be able to catch me there too! Don’t wait. I’d hate for you to miss the game-winning play. Tis the season!
