Photochromic LensesPhotochromic lenses adjust from light to dark based on the amount of UV light coming through the lens. Photochromic lenses are great as they offer you the ability to wear the same lens both inside and outside. There have been great strides made in the effectiveness of photochromics over the years and these lenses have vastly improved in the time it takes to change from light to dark and back again. For patients with any amount of light sensitivity, these lenses are a must. There are a variety of options for those wanting a photochromic lens. SunsensorsThese lenses come in both gray and brown. This lens design has photochromic molecules interspersed throughout the lens and take approximately 60 seconds to completely change to a solid uniformity throughout the lens. TransitionsWatch the video These lenses have a coating on the front of the lens that changes to either gray or brown when exposed to UV light, unlike the Sunsensors that have a molecule mixed throughout the lens. The different design allows for a quicker darkening and lightening of the lens since it occurs on the surface as opposed to throughout the lens. DrivewearWatch the video Most photochromics won’t darken behind the windshield since the windshield itself blocks out the UV light required to make the lens change color. Transitions came up with a unique product that solves this problem in the form of Drivewear. Drivewear lenses will remain dark behind the windshield making them the ultimate option in driving lens material. InstaShadesThis photochromic option from Kodak is one of the fastest photochromics in the market, going from dark to light at almost 3 times faster speed than other options. The UV protection on InstaShades blocks 100% of the sun’s UV radiation and these lenses offer great scratch protection. TintsIn addition to photochromics, Dr. Tavel offers a variety of lens tint options. While photochromics change from light to dark, tinted lenses remain at a constant tint level and do not change. We have patients that like the tint option for fashion-related reasons and some patients that use tints for more specific needs. So whether you want a light pink fashion tint or whether you want a yellow tint to reduce the amount of blue light entering the lens, Dr. Tavel has the right tint option for you. We can tint your glasses in a wide variety of colors and we can do a solid tint or a gradual tint fading from the top down. |
