I was watching American Idol last night and was struck by contestant Danny Gokey and his eye wear selection.   I had seen the article in USA Today about him and his glasses, but it was great to see it in person.  He has revolutionized eye wear fashion due to his signature 18-pair collection of colorful, thick and rectangular glasses. With the size of the audience that American Idol draws, the optical industry is receiving high exposure. Normally, an average American only has one or two pairs of eye glasses, however Gokey feels like all of his glasses that he owns and wears in front of millions of Americans help him stand out as an individual and set him apart from other contestants. His idiosyncrasy shows that glasses can be worn in a fashionable and fun way and that it is great to have several pairs that can be worn for different occasions.

Dr. Tavel likes to use the analogy that most people have numerous pairs of shoes to match their outfits and to express themselves so why shouldn’t eye wear be the same?  Think about it.  When I wear a black suit, I am going to wear a black pair of conservative full frame glasses, like my Columbia glasses.  When I am going out for the evening, I might want a more fashion forward pair of glasses, like my Ted Baker frames, which are rectangular and chunky, similar to the pair that Danny Gokey wears.   When I am working in my office in a casual setting, I wear my semi-rimless Harve Benard glasses, which are lightweight and built for comfort.  The key point is that glasses at Dr. Tavel come in all different shapes, sizes and colors, much like shoes and are made to fit your lifestyle and fashion choice.
