Making A Difference: A Walk In Her Shoes

Dr. Tavel’s organization always strives to make a difference …not only for each and every patient, but for each of the communities in which he is privileged to serve.  In the Dr. Tavel family, giving back is a tradition as illustrated by this story about a third generation doing her part to make a difference.

On October 24^th Alpha Chi Omega sorority hosted the first annual “A Walk in Her Shoes” relay race where men donned high-heel stilettos instead of running shoes to raise awareness about domestic violence and benefit Middle Way House, a domestic violence shelter.  They quite literally walked in the shoes many women wear every day, high-heel stilettos. 

Doni led the sorority’s efforts as Philanthropy Chairwoman.  Participants ran in a 4-person relay event down Jordan Avenue in the red and black heels with Alpha Chi Omega team captains cheering them on their way.  After the race, IU’s First Lady Laurie Burns McRobbie spoke to the participants about domestic violence and the importance of supporting shelters like Middle Way House.

“A Walk in Her Shoes” was a big success in just its first year.  The race was not the only activity as Alpha Chi Omega hosted participants to a barbecue on their front lawn with musical and dancing entertainment.  Over $4,000 was raised for the Middle Way House.  Congratulations to Doni and Alpha Chi Omega on a successful philanthropic event!
