Lens coatings are important for two reasons: they help the performance of your lenses and they improve the appearance of the lenses. Assuming that both of these are critical factors in your eyewear decision, Dr. Tavel offers a variety of lens coatings to suit your needs. Anti-Reflective CoatingsTo attain both improvement in performance and improvement in appearance, anti-reflective coating (also known as AR coating) is the best solution. AR coatings reduce reflections on the lens due to light and glare. From a performance standpoint, this helps reduce rings from light, which is important when driving at night and also when looking at a computer monitor. From an appearance perspective, AR coatings reduce the reflections on the lens, creating a better look. When the glare is reduced on the outside of the lens, it allows others to look at your eyes without any annoying reflections, giving you a more natural look. When cleaning AR lenses, be sure to use specific cleaning materials, as other materials can scratch the lenses. Dr. Tavel Clarifier ARA Dr. Tavel Clarifier® AR coating is applied to your lens allowing it to absorb light instead of reflecting it. This option is highly recommended on all lenses sold at Dr. Tavel as it provides the patient with several layers of protection from scratches and light reflection while helping to keep the glasses cleaner by repelling dirt. Kodak CleAR and Kodak Clean'N'CleARKodak offers two options for a premium AR coating on your lenses. Non-coated lenses allow 10% of light to be reflected away, while lenses coated with Kodak premium AR allow 99% of light to come through unabated. Dr. Tavel recommends adding Kodak AR to any premium Kodak progressive lens sold for the perfect lens combination of quality and beauty. Teflon Clear Coat LensesTeflon Clear Coat lenses are another premium option available at Dr. Tavel. Teflon allows you to see "clearer and crisper" while also providing great scratch protection. Easy to clean and easy to keep clean, the Teflon Clear Coat keeps dust, dirt and oil away from the lens.
