In addition to bifocals and trifocals as an option for the correction of presbyopia, Dr. Tavel offers a wide range of progressive lenses. Progressive lenses are the ultimate option for those who want a seamless progression of lens powers for viewing at all distances. Whereas bi-focals and trifocals offer two or three powers respectively that break at a certain line in the lens, progressive lenses provide three zones of vision with a cleaner transition between them, reducing what is known as “image jump”. You have a distance vision in the upper part of the lens, an intermediate zone in the mid part of the lens and a reading zone at the bottom of the lens to correct your downward vision. The vertical part of the lens used primarily for these three sections of the lens is referred to as a corridor and at Dr. Tavel we take great care to make sure we accurately measure the right location for your eyes for superior viewing at all distances.
Dr. Tavel has several options for those patients interested in progressive lenses. The key to selecting the right progressive lens is determining the primary lifestyle of the patient and determining which frame the patient is going to use. This is important because it helps us to determine how much of the corridor is dedicated to each specific viewing distance. Some patients use the computer quite frequently and prefer to have a wider intermediate zone while others prefer to have a more substantial reading zone.
Dr. Tavel offers standard progressive lenses for those patients who want to move into a progressive lens and at the same time want to have something that is right for their budget. Our standard progressive lenses are also offered in a "Short" version, which is used when a patient selects a smaller, stylish frame and the zones are reduced to allow vision at all three viewing distances.
Dr. Tavel has joined up with Signet Armorlite to offer Kodak Progressive Lenses as our premium quality lens for those patients who want complete visual clarity in all viewing zones. Kodak can be made available in a variety of materials and is also offered in a “Short” version.
