Something we all do during the summer specifically with our sunglasses is pop them on top of our heads.  Even I, a veteran of 10 years in the optical industry, wear my sunglasses on top of my head.

The key to understand though is that this habit requires more frequent adjustments.  You should stop in at least two or three times a year to get your screws tightened, new nose pads (if applicable), and a good cleaning.

Your glasses are alot like your car; they occasionally need some maintenance.  If you can’t remember how long it’s been since you’ve had an optical tune-up, look at your glasses.

If your nosepads are yellow or greenish-black in color then you need to visit your Indianapolis eye doctor.  If you can see the screw heads sticking up out of the frame at any joint, generally the temples and the eyewire where your lens is fitted in the frame, then you need to come in and see Dr. Tavel.  If you hold your frame at the nose bridge and move it back and forth and your temples flop (folding closed and then opening), then come in and see us.

In general for summer maintenance just be aware of where your eyewear is and what condition it’s in.  And if you’ve lost your glasses in the lake, creek or had them eaten by a pool monster, come visit me and I’ll help you find a stylish replacement.
