Making a difference.  Words we hear often in our communities as others help one another and inspire others to do the same.  Making a difference is what eye care doctor Tom Little did for the hundreds of Afghan’s he treated with eye examinations and vision treatments working for the Nuristan Eye Camp in Afghanistan.  Dr. Little took his optical skills and gave back to a community much in need of vision care offering children’s eye exams as well as adult vision care.

Sadly, Dr. Little was brutally gunned down during a trip in the Hindu Kush Mountains along with 9 other companions on their way to offer free health care.  His story with his passion for eye care and hope to make a difference in a dangerous and needy community has been told many times since his death and is continuing to make a difference as others share it and inspire one another to give back.

Recently, Dr. Little was named as the International Optometrist of the Year by WOC.  An award well-deserved by Dr. Little as it is given to those that have shown ‘outstanding commitment and contribution to both the profession of optometry and the community at large’ according to Optometry Today.

Making a difference is something Dr. Little did in a big way by offering eye care in a war-torn country.  But we can all make a difference be it in big or small ways for those in need of eye care.  All Dr. Tavel offices collect and recycle eyeglasses or sunglasses in conjunction with Lions Club International to donate to those in need in Mexico, Haiti, and other countries.  By donating your used glasses and lenses you are helping someone see when they simply couldn’t before.

Dr. Tavel, you and leaders such as Dr. Little, can make a difference and offer eye care to those in need.
