Better to Give Than to Receive

Here is a photo of our adopted family's Christmas tree after we delivered all their gifts.

The old cliche “Tis better to give than to receive” holds so much truth especially this time of year. I recently had the privilege of working with the United Way for the United Christmas Service program.

Each year, United Christmas Service helps those in need during the Holiday season. In 2010, more than 28,500 people received food, clothing and toys through the program. Caseworkers from over 170 agencies refer families to the United Christmas Service program for assistance.

We had the opportunity to bless an Indianapolis mother and her two children. We received a wish list from each family member so we could buy items specific to their needs and wants. It was fun to shop for a little boy and grab some girlie clothes for the daughter!

With the help of our entire Dr. Tavel corporate office we were able to provide our adopted family with food, clothing, household supplies, toys and games. For me, the highlight of the program was having the opportunity to deliver the gifts to the family. It was touching to meet the family in person and get to fill the empty space under their Christmas tree with bunches of gifts. What a great way to get in the Holiday spirit!
